Our education system - good enough?

Right from childhood we are told to perform better, try to secure first rank in the class and so on. The point I like to make here is our individual performance is what get noticed. Even teachers pay more attention to top rankers in the class. And this is the reason why from the very beginning we learnt to concentrate on individual performance rather than performing as a group/team. There is a least amount of team work we get involved in during our school days. At least this is what I have seen in my school and I assume this is what happens in most of the schools across the country.

But once we are into the corporate world everyone expects us to be a good team player, a team player to the core.

Now my question to the society is: Is there something wrong with our education system?Is there something wrong with the way we are brought up? Is there anything we can do in this regard?
